Peste des Petits Ruminants (PPR) Also known as goat plague, PPR is caused by a virus closely related to the rinderpest virus, canine distemper virus, and the human measles virus. Morbidity up to 100 % and mortality rates between 20 and 90 % are common, except in endemic areas or when mild disease occurs.

Shoddy sector The shoddy industry contributes nearly 30% to the woollen industry’s turnover. Shoddy refers to the reclaimed textile fibre from used garments, which is spun on the woollen system to make yarns suitable for making blankets, sweaters, blazer fabrics and heavy woollen jacketing material. There are about 500 units in India engaged in the production of shoddy woollen products by way of spinning, weaving or processing.
Non-worsted Yarn which has not been straightened
Worsted Firm-textured, compactly twisted woolen yarn made from long-staple fibers and the fabric made from such yarn. The essential feature of worsted yarn is straightness of fibre, in that the fibres lie parallel to each other; traditionally, long, fine staple wool was spun to create worsted yarn. Worsteds differ from woollens, in that the natural crimp of the wool fibre is removed in the process of spinning the yarn (source Wikipedia).
Extensive range management system This refers to the practice of free grazing over vast tracts of land, usually without the use of any supplemental feed
Flaying This is the process of removal of skin from the body of a dead animal
Non-recovered skins The skins of dead animals which are not flayed, or lost on account of putrefaction as a result of a delay in flaying
Putrefaction One of the seven stages in the decomposition of the body of a dead animal. It can be viewed, in broad terms, as the decomposition of proteins, in a process that results in the eventual breakdown of cohesion between tissues and the liquefaction of most organs. The exact rate of putrefaction is dependent upon many factors, such as weather, exposure and location. (source Wikipedia)
