 C - Traditional “vaata” system

Women use the traditional “vaata” system of asset building, which has helped in in-situ conservation of the breed in the region.  “Vaata” is based on a system where the recipient of a bird is obliged to return half of the mother hen’s offspring to the original donor, for the full life-span of the original mother bird.

Through this system of sharing, both the number of birds and households rearing them has increased.
