Poultry sector country review – Bangladesh and India

Bookmark and Share

These reviews are a part of a series of Country Reviews that were commissioned by the Animal Production Service (AGAP) of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) for the Socio-Economics, Production & Biodiversity Unit of the Emergency Centre for Transboundary Animal Disease of FAO (ECTAD).

These reviews are intended as resource documents for those seeking information on the poultry sector at the national level. The widespread outbreaks of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) in both India and Bangladesh have made these reports immensely important in understanding the poultry sector and to facilitate a rapid and active response to future out-breaks of HPAI at a national, regional and international level. The report highlights the profile and geographical distribution of  poultry flocks in addition to their production, consumption, trade and pricing patterns, and discusses current policies and legal frameworks while analyzing the strengths and weaknesses of the poultry sector and growth projections for the  poultry sector for the next five years.
