BAIF's Livestock Development Programmes to have Small Ruminants and Backyard Poultry as a Key Component
Jul 31, 2008
This two days exercise involving senior veterinarians and other stakeholders from related fields (like feed and fodder, animal health, semen production, extension services, animal nutrition etc.) saw each participant (including senior and ex-BAIF dignitaries) sharing their experiences and providing suggestions for future planning. Research scientists who have been engaged with specific research projects also participated.
As a follow up another brain storming workshop on livestock development, research and training – the work of BAIF, was organized from 12th-14th June 2008 at Pune. All the associate State Societies participated in the same. A key outcome of these events, was that the participants realized and emphasized the importance of small ruminants and backyard poultry in the livelihoods of the poor, particularly in resource poor and backward areas. One of the key recommendations of the workshop was that the State Societies and BAIF will have Small Ruminants and Backyard Poultry as an important component of their organizational strategy for livestock development.
