Mini-Hatcheries: A viable technology to facilitate supply of Day Old Chicks for rural poultry rearing
Aug 07, 2012
This case study from Bangladesh details the setting up and management of two models of mini-hatcheries namely the rice-husk model and the sand-based box type model. These models were designed and established to facilitate smallholder poultry rearing to improve the livelihoods of moderate and ultra poor households.
The study briefly captures the work of the Palli Karma Sahayak Foundation (PKSF) in Bangladesh, that led the implementation of the IFAD funded Microfinance and Technical Support Project (MFTSP) across 97 sub-districts in southern and north-eastern Bangladesh. The study also details the economics, supply chain and sustainability of the two mini-hatchery models.
