Protection and Regeneration of Common Pool Resources: Estimating the Economic Value
Nov 17, 2011
This report is an annexure to the document “Common Land Development and Poor Livestock Keepers - Experiences from Common Land Development in the States of Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh in India”
The study brings out important findings as well as insights on the benefits from Common Property
Land Resources (CPLRs) management in specific locations in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. Findings from the study suggest that it is feasible to mobilize collective action for CPLR-management which can further contribute to enhancing ecological services.
The study also establishes that appropriate measures for soil and water conservation, as part of CPLR-management, provide significant direct benefits in terms of increase in irrigated area and a resultant increase in crop production. The study indicates that there are fairly substantial benefits, which could more than justify the public investment on such resources. The study has been carried out jointly by the Gujarat Institute of Development Research and the Foundation for Ecological Security.
