This case study documents and reviews the process of contract farming as practiced by the Venkateshwara Hatcheries limited (VHL) in Andhra Pradesh. The study highlights the limitations of this model for small/landless farmers and makes recommendations on how it can be made pro-poor in order to contribute to the development of smallholder poultry rearers.
