Poultry based livelihoods of rural poor - Case of Kuroiler in West Bengal

This field study was initiated in 1997 to analyze the impact of the Kuroiler poultry bird in improving and sustaining livelihoods of the poor; understand threats and opportunities for the Kuroiler and to identify the need for policy support to promote market oriented household based poultry production systems.

The sample size for this research study was 260 households, 37 mother unit owners and 37 pheriwalas (vendors), from four district of West Bengal - 24 South Parganas, Jalpaiguri, Murshidabad and East Midnapore.
